Established in 1837 in Massachusetts, Lamson is proud to be the oldest cutlery manufacturer in the United States. Our name is synonymous with American artistry and carries a distinguished history - in 1869, newly-elected US President Ulysses S. Grant was presented a 62-piece Lamson dinner set at the White House, and pieces of this extraordinary gift remain on display at the Smithsonian Institution. Today, our talented artisans still handcraft each piece in western Massachusetts, offering an extensive selection of elegantly functional products, including laser-cut and forged cutlery, kitchen tools, and trade tools.
Over the years, we have survived major world events, difficult financial times, and even a natural disaster that forced us to relocate from our original factory. Through it all, our spirit and commitment to American craftsmanship have not diminished. These experiences have instead inspired a renewed celebration of our heritage - the superior quality, service, and passion for excellence that would make our founders proud.
Lamson products are designed to meet the diverse needs of both professional and household users, delivering high-performing and stylish solutions that are traditional yet innovative. As we move towards our third century in business, our mission remains steadfast: to aim for nothing short of American-made perfection.
One of our signature products is the Nakiri, an awesome Japanese-style general-purpose kitchen knife similar to a Santoku. The Nakiri's blade is heavier and thicker than a Santoku, resulting in a more chopping motion rather than a rocking motion. It performs exceptionally well at chopping, slicing, dicing, and mincing, and its lack of a sharp tip makes it safer to use than many other kitchen knife styles.
Signature craftsmanship is the hallmark of Lamson. Each of our knives is meticulously crafted to perfection, using state-of-the-art technology combined with hand finishing and proprietary polishing and sharpening processes.
Durability is another key feature of our knives. Our blades are precision-forged using the traditional hot-drop method, tempered to a perfect hardness of 58 on the Rockwell scale. This results in a hard, wickedly sharp blade that retains its edge for longer and is highly corrosion-resistant and elastic.
Superior performance is also a defining characteristic of Lamson knives. Full-tang blades with triple-riveted handles ensure ideal balance and weight, while a curved and recessed bolster provides a seamless transition from handle to blade, offering comfortable thumb and finger support for better control and safety.
In conclusion, Lamson's heritage, craftsmanship, durability, and performance make our knives and kitchen tools the perfect choice for both professional and home chefs. As we continue our journey into the future, we remain committed to upholding the American tradition of excellence that has defined our brand for over 180 years.
