The Oldest Cutlery Manufacturer in the United States: Lamson's Artistry and Functionality
Established in 1837 in Massachusetts, Lamson is proud to be the oldest cutlery manufacturer in the United States. The company's name is synonymous with American artistry and carries a distinguished history. In 1869, newly-elected US President Ulysses S. Grant was presented with a 62-piece Lamson dinner set at the White House, and pieces of this extraordinary gift remain on display at the Smithsonian Institution.
Today, Lamson's talented artisans continue to handcraft each piece in western Massachusetts, offering an extensive selection of elegantly functional products, including laser-cut and forged cutlery, kitchen tools, and trade tools. With designs that cater to both professional and household needs, Lamson products are high-performing and stylish, traditional and innovative.
The Vintage Series from Lamson features an updated, ergonomically friendly hand-finished stabilized walnut handle, with a traditional, timeless look and feel. The sleek integrated bolster allows for a traditional or pinch-grip, and the brass rivets complement the walnut handle and accent the stainless steel blade. The Fillet/Boning Knife is perfect for delicate tasks such as filleting fish or boning chicken breasts.
Lamson's commitment to craftsmanship is evident in every detail of their knives. Each knife is meticulously crafted, finished to perfection using state-of-the-art technology coupled with hand finishing, as well as proprietary polishing and sharpening processes. The blades are forged from proprietary high-carbon stainless steel (Grade 420HC-LAM), ensuring unmatched quality and durability.
The knives feature sleek and sturdy handles made of Infused Walnut, and the blades are precision laser-cut and tempered to a hardness of 58 on the Rockwell scale. This results in a hard, wickedly sharp blade that retains its edge for longer and is highly corrosion-resistant and elastic.
The full tang blades with double brass riveted handles ensure ideal balance and weight, while the curved and recessed integrated bolster provides a seamless transition from handle to blade, resulting in comfortable thumb and finger support for better control and safety.
Walnut Kitchen Knives are not dishwasher safe and should be rinsed and washed in warm soapy water, dried thoroughly with a soft cloth, and then stored. To keep the walnut handles looking good, Lamson recommends a light application of mineral oil every few months.
As Lamson moves towards a third century in business, their mission remains steadfast: to aim for nothing short of American-made perfection. Experience the artistry and functionality of Lamson, where products are handcrafted with care and deep-rooted in tradition.
